Learn to Control ANS;
Stop Being Sluggish Nor Hyperactive
"Autonomic Nervous System"(ANS)is a control system automatically operated by the human body; however, the Higher Spirit says that the ANS can still be controlled consciously. For example, skin pores seem to open or close on their own, but with certain practices, one can control the movements of pores at will.
"Dysautonomia", then, can be compared to dysfunction of skin pores, which, once open, do not close automatically and then causes you to have a cold. If you can control the pores, then you can first close them, giving the body a chance to deal with the disorder (cold) that is already caused. After treatment, the body will resume its normal control of the pores. In the same way, as far as dysautonomia is concerned, you can quickly help the body resume its normal rhythm through learning to consciously control your ANS.
So how do we control the ANS?
Before the answer is revealed, dear readers, please understand that a person’s state of being can go to two extremes. At one end, he can idle, do nothing and take no action at all; at the other end, he can be intense, agitated, and restless. When someone is mired in either state, he would not like himself as such, but he would also feel impossible to change anything. For example, clearly there are things to do, but vitality is simply lost with the presence of many distractions such as spontaneous phubbing, playing online games, or being constantly stuck on one thing after another ...... As a result, a day is again wasted. Or someone has made a morning exercise plan for the weekend, but on that day he simply stops the alarm clock and then goes back to sleep. However, sleeping until noon makes him listless, and he will have more self-blame emotions for his own "Fine Start, Poor Finish".
At the other end, when it is high time to rest or sleep, the rebellious mind is like non-stop news tickers, thinking repeatedly about something that cannot be handled at once. Or the body is obviously tired, but the mind simply cannot stop working. Such a person cannot help it and seems to have no choice but to finish everything in one breath before he can rest.
The Higher Spirit says that frequently being in either state is not good; both will make you feel that life is out of balance and gradually ”cannot help it". When one really "cannot help it", it is that the body-mind imbalance has become so seriously out of control that the body cannot adjust itself, which is the status of "Dysautonomia".
Although these two extremes seem awful, you still can use them to get rid of them and return to the middle course! This method is in fact very simple; only two steps are required:
1. Whenever you are situated in either extreme, you have to memorize the feeling at that moment.
For example, if you feel lethargic and inactive, then you should stop blaming yourself, give yourself some time to memorize the body-mind feeling at that moment, and imprint it in your heart; you may need to do so for a few times. Similarly, when you are in an agitated state and unable to calm down, do the same practice. Practice Step 1 for a period of time before the second step as follows.
2. Next, when you fall into one extreme, you "meditate" the other. You will discover that by meditation, you can slowly move your body-mind status from one end to the other. With regular practice, you can even control how many "marks" on a scale you want to move.
For example, when you feel that you have fallen into a body-mind status of lethargy and inactivity, you can "meditate" the feeling of being agitated and unable to calm down. The so-called "meditation" is to first evoke from your memory the experience you have chosen, and then focus on it.
As a result, you will discover that, just by doing so, your status is really changing. The previous status of too much lethargy or too much agitation will be harmonized. For a proficient practitioner (who does this practice regularly), he can control his body-mind status through this meditation to move his "ANS slider" as if he were sliding to adjust his mobile phone screen's brightness for a photo. He can move his body-mind status toward the direction of feeling "relaxed" or "invigorated".
This is the method how you can regulate the "Autonomic Nervous System"(ANS).
So when you are sleepless at night, only by meditating on the memory of "your lethargic and inactive body-mind", you can regulate your ANS at that moment and switch your body-mind status so that you can calm down for a
good sleep. Conversely, when you feel that you are too lethargic and inactive, only by meditating on the memory of "being very agitated and unable to stop", you will find your body-mind status initiated and agile.
This method is simple enough to understand; however, tight and impatient people seldom have lethargic and inactive experiences. Even if they do, they have little such memory, and vice versa. Therefore, when an impatient person occasionally comes to an inactive moment, or when an inactive person occasionally appears to be in a state of agitation and excitement, he should remember to utilize such state of being and practice Step 1 before he can successfully practice Step 2 when necessary.
The next thing is about dealing with the root cause of Dysautonomia.
On the whole, Dysautonomia is telling you that your life has been unknowingly deviated from the middle course. But In fact, the word "unknowingly" here is not something really unknown to you; it is something that somehow you just cannot control, or some behavioral pattern that you cannot but repeat with the knowledge that it is bad for yourself. Take the human circadian clock for example. Your circadian clock wakes you up in the morning and it is good if you get up. However, someone may have a strong emotion against getting up at that moment, so he stops the alarm clock, or gets up for the toilet and lie down immediately afterwards. He would not get up until he feels uncomfortable for lying such long hours. When he finally gets himself up, he has no energy, lounging away the rest of the day doing nothing and pushes his body-mind more toward the extreme of inactivity. On the contrary, others may have a hard time falling asleep and wake up easily during sleep. They know that they should continue their sleep, but it is terrible to toss about in bed, so they simply get up to do something. As a result, their biological rhythms become more disordered and their restlessness is even more serious. Why does such a state of "Always Losing Control" occur? People suffering from such problem often fall into self-blame emotions which lead to worse results. Such a person tends to think himself to be a Little Devil living inside the body.
If you find yourself using the term "Little Devil" (or similar words) to describe your self, then you are advised to abandon the mentality to muddle along because it is the beginning of schizophrenia. When your life is still smooth, you can tolerate Little Devil's occasional tricks. However, once fluctuations in your yearly horoscope come with many changes occurring at the same time as well as great stress, you are very likely to have an irreversible mental illness. You simply cannot chase away Little Devil anymore; at that point, even if you use the method taught today, the help it can offer will be quite limited.
In fact, the issue is not this Uncontrollable Little Devil, which is just some kind of distortion accumulated with wrong directions and wrong points of force application due to your need to adjust imbalances in life (of course, including the causes and effects from many past lives). Little Devil is just a symptom, like a fever itself is not the disease. You just don't know how you have been busy moving stumbling blocks to obstruct the road of your own life. You simply have no idea how, through either your actual behavior or perspective to see things, you have habitually used your subjectivity to do things, and as a result, you continue to create frustrations of Doing Things Contrary To Your Wishes. These blind spots of Moving Bricks To Smash Your Own Feet in this life or many past lives of yours derive the vicious cycles, the roots of Dysautonomia.
Actually, Dysautonomia is the symbol for the Disorder Between You And The World. Therefore, what you should do is not to take sleeping pills and stomach medicine confusedly, nor pig out on food and compulsively buying things to divert attention, nor worriedly burning paper money and folding paper lotus...... What you should do is to learn from seniors' wisdom, find the perspectives and practices that can turn every stumbling block in your life into a stepping stone, and then you will jump on the Balanced Higher Level to carry out spiritual and material successes of the next stage. This is how to deal with the root cause of Dysautonomia, and the psychosomatic disorder will naturally be cured without medicine. (Otherwise, "All that is medicinal is 30% poisonous." Long-term dependence on drugs will lead to more serious problems).
The so-called "seniors' wisdom" is, in fact, many words, experiences or stories left by others can clear up your current blind spots. If you are sincere (to find such wisdom as your priority), you will definitely find it. When you have true Sincerity, God will definitely give you a push from behind; this is the law of the universe. If you feel it too slow on your own, or the suffering is too much to bear any longer, then of course you can come to the Spirit to help you resolve your karma. But again, you must be willing to let go of all your masks and criterions, and willing to listen to the Spirit's message without limits; otherwise, the Spirit can only give you directions in accordance with your criterions. Then your progress will be delayed by yourself. Your suffering will be prolonged, since no one (nor God) can get involved in your karma.
In fact, ultimately, don't be afraid of "Dysautonomia" or "depression". It is simply that your life is out of balance. These "Imbalances" must have their causes and effects. If you can balance them back, you will be fine.
Passing through dark valleys in life is inevitable. The phrase "Lucky me" is used to describe a person who has passed through the haze of life and sees the light again. Then, what can be done to become "Lucky me"? We can tell you here:
"Good luck" is not about setting a goal with your speculation, and then racking your brains to achieve it. Many people have done so, but they later have psychosomatic disorder, cancer, untold misery and hardship. As a result, everything that is earned becomes meaningless. (Please refer to the life stories of Steve Jobs and Kai-fu Lee). In fact, the path to get good luck is:
In the impermanence of life (in the constantly changing personal careers and social environments), you can always learn how to achieve the "Balance With The World" so that your body-mind can stay healthy, full and complete.
("Balanced" is a dynamic state of being, so the wisdom to learn at each stage is different). In this way, you do not need to compromise your body-mind to seek fame and fortune. Blessings and riches will naturally follow you. When you experience such a state in life, you have got your Good Luck!
The ability to maintain a dynamic balance with the world is what it means by "Wisdom". Those who do not know to develop such an ability are “asleep” or "not awakening" in Buddhist terms. Only those who learn the wisdom of maintaining such a balance can be called "spiritual practitioners". Regardless of your age or achievement, different challenges in different life stages require you to learn the wisdom of balances at different levels; this is the true meaning of "Living & Learning". That is to tell you,
The "Core Sutra" that you really need to understand and that can get you out of all suffering is, in fact, THIS WORLD in which you choose to take birth.
If you can humbly let go of your pride and limits, start learning the wisdom to balance with the world, release your grudges one after another and liberate your creativity bit by bit, then the growth curve of your life will become an upward parabola and you will begin to have a real connection with "God". With time, such connection becomes deeper and deeper, and you can even feel a lot of things in advance (including someone's life and death and that all death is not accidental). You can also feel the growth and decline of many things, the so-called "Secrets of Heaven" (which come by themselves. If you pursue them as a goal, you will have an exactly opposite effect and bring yourself disasters.) But these are not important. What is truly important is that:
Learning the Wisdom to Balance will be THE PATH that allows you to "Go Home" (and get out of all suffering), because you yourself will see "God" (the infinite consciousness of "Anything Goes") on the path of your own life, which will definitely become more and more clear, unlike the common phrase that "I don't know if God exists?" And when you see God, you will know where life comes from and where death goes, and you will not be retained in the endless samsara on Earth by all kinds of "doubts" and "grudges".
In the end, the Higher Spirit says, "With one third of THE PATH achieved, you will be obviously experiencing a more opulent life, so don't think that THE PATH sounds distant and the journey long and winding. In that case, will there be a better choice in life than THE PATH?
